Privacy Policy

Farbinder is a local-area community platform: neighbourhood forums, a directory of local businesses, and promotions offered by those businesses. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

• Account: email address, password (stored only as a hash), username, display name, and a profile picture if you upload or generate one.
• Phone number, only if you choose to verify one for SMS.
• Date of birth,if you choose to give it. We ask once, to check you meet the minimum age in our terms. You don’t have to answer, and we never show your birthday on your public profile - though if you turn on the “Age” setting, the year it implies is what other people see.
• Preferences: your preferred area, language and region, and notification settings.
• Content you post: forum posts and replies, votes, flags, and any images or video you attach.
• Business information, if you claim or create a business listing: business and location details, address, opening hours, photos, videos, and promotions.
• Payment details for paid plans are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

We record activity on public pages so that business owners can see how their listings perform: when a listing was shown, when a profile or promotion page was opened, click-throughs, and video plays. These are counts of page activity; we do not build a profile of your browsing across visits. Each record stores the time, what it was about, a traffic-source label, and whether the visitor appeared to be a search-engine crawler.

Page views are recorded on our servers when the page is served, which means a visit is logged even if you have JavaScript disabled or block trackers. We record crawler visits too, because they are how search engines list a business.

We also keep your IP address and browser user-agent alongside “keep me signed in” sessions, so you can see where your account is signed in.

We keep this activity data for 400 days, after which it is deleted automatically.

• Session cookie - keeps you signed in during a visit. Strictly necessary.
• fb_lid- the “keep me signed in” token, up to 30 days. Deleted when you sign out, and invalidated everywhere when you change your password.

We set no analytics or advertising cookies of our own. We deliberately do not track you across visits, which is why our statistics count page views rather than unique people.

Google Analytics and Google AdSense do set their own cookies, for measurement and for advertising.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, those cookies stay switched off until you agree to them. Analytics and advertising storage start in a denied state, and we ask for your choice through Google’s consent dialog before anything is stored. Outside those regions they are on by default.

You can change your answer at any time from the Cookie choices link in the footer, which reopens that dialog. You can also decide how Google personalises advertising to you in your Google ad settings, and clear cookies through your browser whenever you like. • To run your account and show you the areas and forums you follow.
• To display forums, business listings and promotions.
• To give business owners statistics about their own listings, in aggregate.
• To send you service messages, and marketing or deal emails you can unsubscribe from.
• To keep the platform safe: moderation, flagged content, and abuse prevention.
• To take payment for paid plans.

Business owners see counts about their listings. They do not see who you are, and we do not give them your identity, your browsing history, or your contact details.

We do not sell your personal information. We use these providers to operate the service:

• Amazon Web Services — hosting, file storage, email delivery, SMS, and video processing.
• Stripe — subscription payments.
• Mapbox — geocoding business addresses and map images.
• Google — AdSense advertising and Google Analytics.
• Cloudflare — Turnstile, which protects our forms from automated abuse.
• GIPHY — the GIF picker in the forum composer.
• Sign-in providers you choose to use, which give us your email address, name and profile picture.

Many listings in our directory were imported from public data sources, not submitted by the business. If you are the owner of a listing you did not create, you can claim it to take control of it, or ask us to correct or remove it at support@coredumpsoftware.com.

Business listing data is derived from Overture Maps Foundation places data (CDLA Permissive 2.0). Place, city and region names are derived from GeoNames, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

• Edit or delete your profile information at any time from your account settings.
• Turn off marketing and deal emails in settings, or use the unsubscribe link in any of them.
• Delete your posts. Where a post has replies, a placeholder may remain so the thread still reads.
• Ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to delete your account, at support@coredumpsoftware.com.

We answer these requests within 30 days. There is no self-service button for export or deletion yet, so email us and a person will handle it. When we delete an account we remove your profile and personal details; posts with replies may leave a placeholder so threads still read, and copies can persist in backups for a period afterwards.

Depending on where you live you may also have the right to correct your data, object to or restrict certain processing, or complain to your local data protection authority. Ask us and we will help.

If you live in a US state with its own privacy law - California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia and a growing number of others - you have specific rights over your information.

We do not sell your personal information for money.We do let Google show personalised advertising, and several of these laws treat that as “sharing” or “targeted advertising” even when no money changes hands. You can opt out of it: use the Do not sell or share my personal informationcontrol shown on the site, and we will pass your choice on to Google. If you can’t find it, email us and we will apply it for you.

You can also ask us to:

• tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy of it
• correct it, if it is wrong
• delete it

Email support@coredumpsoftware.com for any of these and we will answer within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights - no reduced service, no different pricing.

You must be at least 13 to use Farbinder, or older if the law where you live sets a higher minimum. Farbinder is not directed to children under that age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

We ask for your date of birth once, so you can confirm you meet the minimum age. Giving it is optional, and we do not verify it against a document or any third party - it is your own statement of your age.

If we learn that we hold personal information from someone under the minimum age, we will delete the account and the information we hold about it. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us at support@coredumpsoftware.com and we will remove it.

If we make a significant change we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the product or by email.
